bygone rivers are
resting places of blacklogs
and box turtles
slide over stones
to call them arteries is too cute
but trout hold the pools
suspended
in free floating exertion
they move only for gold spinners
or wriggling earthworms, rooters
noble but dumb
they cannot survive leeching chemicals
and summer sun
this is no gilly game
but wader lament
where rivers bend
a mottled fish is no friend
in placid rapids
when the squalls roll through

Good imagery and word choice. Gives a feeling for rivers and fishing with so many layers of meaning.
