cut leaf tobacco

“cut leaf tobacco” by Gabriel Sebastian

rolled and rolled and rolled
burning fingers stained with proud brown
dexterity makes it tight but craving a smoke
the hand ceegarettes
cheroots
smoke them for the high
for the nicotine orgasm
small reward for consummation
with smolder and ash and fire
after a body or my food
or the laze of a warm wet spring afternoon
on porches

besides, you can’t smoke-a-heaven
strolling down the commons
only light up when the break comes
when the urge wants quick escape
to could-breathe haven

enjoy it now, this leisurely smoke
trade wampum for cash crop
and time for time
