Oh, what a lesson the British swallows teach
as they breach the timber beam for winter rest in South Africa.
There is no shortcut for the task
that winds through western France, across the Pyrenees.
Then on to eastern Spain into Morocco
before crossing the Sahara
to complete the long and imperiled journey at long last.
No path of least resistance, no easy way out.
Did Moses find a workaround to avoid leading the Israelites through the Red Sea?
Did Joshua abandon the conquest of Canaan, which took years to complete?
Timing is everything, as the swallow knows.
Even they pause to rest.
Getting through takes patience.
