In the name of Science
her body, she forsakes
to know the results
of a gun fired in space.

Ruth Less
at her own behest
shot herself in the chest.

With curiosity,
this train of thought had begun,
casually messin’ around
just having fun,
when a bullet actually discharged
from her own gun;
whilst hovering about in outer space
with zero gravity
keeping the projectile in place,
it kept going at a steady pace
until Ruth turned around,
staring it in the face.

Can I really shoot myself by aiming straight ahead ?
Will this bullet have enough force
to kill me dead ?

Testing out theories
she should’a Googled first;
encountering forces beyond her control:
space-time, worm holes
curvatures.
Whoa,
did they all make it
ever so much worse.

It was messier than she expected,
wished she could take it back,
kinda’ figured she’d only go SPLAT,
didn’t realize
her soul would carry on
being like that.

So,
on she lives
with a gaping hole in her middle,
knowing some things are better off
staying
a riddle.
