Lies Quiet

by Diane Webster

Tattered crow feather
blows against blades
of grass growing
in the pavement crack
of the do-not-pass
zone where wind
passes freely
and pulls the feather
to the side of the road.

It waves to traffic
in hopes a good
Samaritan will stop,
but no one sees;
the feather
lies quiet
as a shadow
vanished at nightfall.
