old men’s dreams cruise
down Woodward Avenue
romanticized Detroit iron muscle
against a soundtrack of Beach Boys tunes
engines hum and lake pipes roar
big three legendary wheels
of their mythic youthful years
Corvettes, Stingrays, T-birds, ‘stangs
442s, 409s, GTOs and little Deuce Coupe
their fantasy summertime drives
fueling teenaged wet dreams
chromed engined chromed wheeled
American expressions, power and art
in fiberglass, sheet metal and steel
bodies painted candy apple metal flake red
ermine white and Chalfont blue.
