Greetings, dear reader!
Welcome to confetti.
We can’t wait to share this jubilant issue—fresh art debuts, renewed voices, and eclectic stories.
Visual Celebrations
This edition marks the inaugural offering of artwork and photography from amazing contributors. Our front and back covers both shine: The front cover features “Going Swimmingly” by DC Calungsod, whose elegant movement pulls you into the page — liquid, graceful, and delightfully alive. On the back cover, Christine Adler brings the quiet, purple beauty of a night sky alight with the Aurora Borealis in her painting “Aurora 1”. You can view both covers from our Table of Contents.
We now accept submissions of images of original paintings, and images of other works of art including incredible photographs.
Manfred Hauben—an artist who is no stranger to confetti’s pages—gives us a breathtaking New York City skyline captured at the exact instant of a Fourth of July fireworks burst; it’s a perfect, celebratory freeze-frame, timely as our nation celebrates our 250th.
Another young photographer whose images capture haunting views of abandoned America finds the profound in the derelict and the decayed. One only needs to visit Julia Antonio’s Portfolio page to witness her talent.
You can check out her work, and all of this edition’s art selections in our new Art section. Also, you can find the artist’s profile included on their page. As with all published works, you can leave a comment at the bottom of each page.
Audio & Poetry
We continue our audio offerings: select poems in this issue are presented with recordings, read by the poets themselves. Hearing the authors’ own rhythms and inflections adds an intimate layer to the words on the page.
J. Clifford Milligan once again delivers powerful contemporary poetry—he creates a movement all his own—one yet to be identified in poetic history. A few more familiar voices grace our poetry list: Craig Kirchner, Margie Marek, John Tracy, and John Grey are joined by newcomers David A. Lee and Daniel de Culla among many more.
Prose Galore
A recent mention of confetti in Author’s Publish magazine sparked a surge of prose submissions for this edition—so many that we had to pause prose submissions for the first time ever! Our prose editors read through the bounty received to fill this edition with the best stories. Rich characters, sharp narrators, drama, mourning, whimsy, and charm lurk among the pages. From micro-fiction to novelettes, our spring issue has got you covered. Be sure to check out our feature article about Westchester Writers Workshop member Axel Martens’ newly published novel, which transports readers to a world of Vikings and witches.
Looking Ahead
Our Fall issue is already filling up with exciting submissions. Deadline for the next edition is September 1. Keep those pieces coming—we love discovering new and returning voices and seeing the world through unique perspectives.
From all our selectors and editors, our versatile and vigorous webmaster, and on behalf of Westchester Writers Workshop and Somers Library, thank you for your submissions, your readership, and your support.
Enjoy confetti and celebrate eclectic voices!
