“To See” Artwork by Donald Patten
Dear Lord
Please dust me silver
with the finest nanoparticles
of aluminum
and fire up the 5G
like a votive candle
rocket ship
Radiate my soul
melt my mitochondria
and pack my synapses
with microplastics
so I can bow down before you
with dementia
and forget to worship
the barren land
of leafless trees
and bee-less gardens
Heavenly Father
your techno-bureaucratic
militaristic
environmentalist lunatics
are misting the mountains
and the shining seas
with hives of heavy metals
in the guise of salvation
We praise them
in your name
And we know Dear Lord
you’ve graced us with methane
leaking loose under melting poles
enough to convert Earth into Venus
another hot sexy fire-dead world
emerging with your guidance
Please grant us the serenity to ignore
the criss-cross patterns in the sky
the courage to accept the official denials
and the wisdom to watch pornography
and argue about politics
instead of rousing the rabble
and the pitch-fork army
and hunting the streets
in search of blood
Amen.
