Buzz Off

by J.P.J. Fox

Buzzy found people vexing. Everyone. Like they were impossible to avoid. On the bus, the sidewalks. In the shops, the park. The ones at the office were the worst.

He snubbed his sister long ago. She was the one who first called him “Buzzy.” His parents had named him Beaumont. The third. Like it was some legacy.

Nurse Sally bothered him to say Dr. Finn was coming soon. He’d find out anyway when that useless bastard delivered his next wrong opinion. Like he was smarter.

Dying slowly on his hospital bed, Buzzy dreaded visitors. Like they could help.
